The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. by president Bill Clingan.
The treasurer’s report was read and approved.
New Business:
Bill discussed the new club web site: www.bmara.org
It costs $15.00 a year to keep the domain name.
There is an online membership form for new members and an update form for current members to update all their info.
Each current member will be given a username and password for the “Members’ Only” section of the web site.
There is also a chat room. There are currently people who take the Skywarn training that do not have their license and are not able to participate during severe weather. This chat room could be used by these individuals to relay information about severe weather.
Every club member had an email address. It is a forwarding email account. A 20 Mb email account could also be set up for a member.
We want to set up a history section on the web site. If anybody has any old pictures etc., we can use them in this section.
The web site has already brought us 2 new members.
There will be an activities section to provide info on hamfests, events, etc.
We have pictures from field day posted right now.
If anybody has anything that they think is important and needs to be included on the web site, please let Bill know.
Stan Hurst made a motion that the club reimburse Bill the $15.00 for the cost of the domain name for the web site. Diane Walthall seconded the motion. It passed without opposition.
October 6-8 is the national emergency day. We will be setting up at the Albertville rec. center.
Three new members applied for membership. They were voted in without opposition. They are:
David Young — KG4HVR from Hulaco.
Bill Hollis — KI4OOJ from west of Morgan City.
Bill Bruce — KG4VBC
Stan and Bill went to a class on the new DStar radio. They said that in their opinion this is not something that the club wants to get. It is a closed system. The signal would be choppy like a cell phone because it is digital. It is only made by 1 company and they would have to be the ones to fix it if it breaks. The costs are around $6,000 for the repeater, $800 for a mobile radio, and $600 for a handheld. Someone that did not have one of the “new” radios would not be able to talk on the repeater.
The meeting was adjourned.
